3D Helicopter Fun!

Also, Be Sure and Visit the Heli Videos Page and the Heli Events Page

During our Annual Trip to Florida this February we visited again with Bob and Becky Gerstein of B & B Hobbies and flew with them at TRAC (Tampa).

Hanging the Razor in Tampa.

PG 378 at the RC field in Tampa in February 2008.

In February 2008 we visited the heli pilots at JAX RC in Jacksonville, Florida.  The guys were very nice.  Richard Ng was kind enough to let me OPM his Synergy N9(above and to the right) a couple of times.  And Robert Taylor allowed me to OPM his T-Rex 500 (below).  Thanks.

In October 2007 we were out in Las Vegas and flew out at the Szabos local field.  We were able to meet up with Alan Sr., Alan Jr., and Marcus Kim!

Alan Szabo Jr., Marcus Kim and PG 378

A fellow heli pilot named Tony was kind enough to let me OPM his TRex 600N.  We also made a stop at Thunder Power which is also located in Las Vegas, NV.

While in Ajo, Arizona in October 2007 we visited the United States Border Patrol Office.  A U.S. Army Black Hawk helicopter landed there and the crew was kind enough to show us the heli and spend time with us.  We got a couple of T-shirts and a ball cap too.

Paul in the cockpit!  We showed the pilot a photo of Paul flying his helicopter inverted and the pilot teased he was going to give that a try sometime.  The rest of the crew was not amused and hoped he wasn't serious.

Flying with Curtis Youngblood - September 2007 in Hearne-Flying there is like flying an obstacle course.  Watch the hurricane around the tree in the video.

(Click the photo of Paul and Curtis to see the flight.)

See Our Miniature Aircraft MXR Razor...

200 Flights later the Razor's quality is undeniable!

We have done NOTHING to this machine (except inspect it and fly it).  It has been flown 200 times!  See a flight (May 07) by clicking on the photo to the right.

Unfortunately, at the Port Charlotte Event in February 2008 PG's tail slide ended in disaster.  (Click the photo to the left to see the sad ending.)

Steve got the heli back in working order in two days.  The whole head and tail had to be replaced, plus the tail servo.  The frame, batteries and electronics (except t.s.) were fine!

Go to the Heli Videos page for a flight at Port Charlotte.

I am Paul Grohman, aka PG 378, flying a Gohbee Stinger 50 at George Bush Park in Houston, Texas. I learned how to fly on a Hirobo Shuttle Plus.  Just a few weeks before IRCHA 2006 I did my first flips with the Gohbee.   I enjoy flying 3D now!

A neat thing happened while in Houston in December 2006-I flew my first OPM! (other people's machine).  Mike, out at the George Bush Park, was kind enough to let me give his Hirobo Sceadu 50 a 3D flight.  I was impressed with the performance of the helicopter.

While in Texas, we had to make a visit to see Curtis Youngblood and of course, Zack!  Both Curtis and Zack were friendly when we went to C.Y.E. Headquarters between Hearne and Bryan, Texas.  We had met both Curtis and Zack at IRCHA 2006.  I was able to spot Curtis during his night fly.  That was a special treat for sure.  We have a set of the Radix Blades, Stubz, and tail blades on our MXR Razor 600E and "WOW".  Everyone needs Radix for their helis.  www.curtisyoungblood.com

We also fly a T-Rex 450SE.  In June 2006, while in Pennsylvania, I did my first flips with the SE.  We currently have it set up for night flying.  I did my first night fly in early October 2006.  We were at an R.V. park and some little boys from one of the campers stood by and watched.  During the flight they were all asking, "Can we all take a turn?"  We upgraded it to an SE in May 2006.  We got rid of our T-Rex in December 2007.

While in Houston we met George Harrington who owns Falcon Batteries Inc You can get at least 20 flights with out a recharge on Falcon's flight pack for nitro helicopters.  With the Falcon Batteries you won't have to worry with interrupting your flights to charge the batteries.  We also put a Falcon Battery in our T-Rex and we were able to notice a vast difference in power.  We are extremely pleased with the batteries performance from Falcon.

In our Razor we use two 25C 4,350mAh and 30C 4,500 Predator Series from Falcon Batteries Inc.  As a sponsored Falcon pilot I recommend that when you make your next battery purchase that you give Falcon's Lithium Polymer Batteries a try.  You can call George at 1-713-977-1343.  Let him know that "Paul sent me." www.falconbatteries.com

In January 2005 and February 2006 we visited with Zak "Little Z" Johns and his dad Robert Johns.  We spent a couple of days together working on helis and we went out to their flying field in Virginia Beach, Virginia during both visits.  It was a bit nippy both times.  Zak and I met at IRCHA 2005.

Later in January 2005 we went to Miniature Aircraft located in Sorrento, near Orlando, Florida and met Tim Schoonard.  We visited with the gang at MA again in February 2008 in Sorrento,

My dad and I enjoy this hobby together.       My dad flew a Hirobo Shuttle back in the mid 80's.  When he showed me some old photos from him flying in San Antonio, it sparked a renewed interest for him and a new interest for me.  He likes to fly too.  My dad is a great mechanic and a great trainer/advisor.

My dad and I watching heli vids on our laptop after some great Razor flights in Pennsylvania in March 2007.

I learned so much on the simulator.  So thanks to the makers of Real Flight G3.5 for such a helpful product.  It helped me to learn basic 3D maneuvers and push the limits without the costs!  I enjoy flying the simulator and have all the add-ons and expansion packs 1&2.  I recommend it to a lot of people.  I especially enjoying flying with guys all over the world on G3 Multiplayer.  It's great to chat with guys about their helis and to find out about the weather in Sweden and Cancun too!  If you see PG 378 on multiplayer that is me!

The first time we met Mike Caffrey he cut milkweed plants as he hovered a Stinger 50 inverted.  (Photo of Milkweed Mike to the left.)  So...this one is for you Mike.  We didn't have milkweed, but we did have some dry grass to cut.
